How to Build Prom Tuxedos

Choosing the pants and jacket for your tuxedo is only the first step.  You also need to decide what to wear in order to pull everything together so that you have a stylish look.  This will take a little bit of know how but can easily be done.

  1. Choose your pants and jacket Black is a very time-honored look that looks good on everyone and never goes out of fashion.  While you may be tempted to hunt down a pastel colored tuxedo from another decade, in the end you will regret it because you want to look your best on prom night.

  2. Choose your shirt, which should either be white or a variation of it (i.e. cream, ivory, ecru).  Look for a shirt that has one of the following types of collars: a classic point collar, a smaller wing collars or a mandarin collar.  You may also want to find a shirt that not only has one of these collars but that also has tiny pleats down the front of it as these are very popular.

  3. You now have your classic black-and-white tuxedo.  Add some flair to it by choosing a colored or patterned vest.  Another option is a cummerbund (a wide, pleated band of fabric that straps around your waist, across your stomach).

  4. Choose your tie – either a long, knotted tie or a bow tie.  Make sure that it matches or coordinates with either your vest or your cummerbund, depending upon which you have chosen to wear.

  5. Add accessories such as cufflinks and button covers.

  6. Tuck a satin handkerchief square into your breast pocket.
