How to Build Wall Plaques
People who want to showcase their achievements or achievements of others build plaques to hang on walls. Building plaques doesn’t require many tools and shouldn't take a long time. Building your own plaque is a good way of making the plaque unique and personal.
Things You'll Need:
- Pencil
- Poster board
- Wood Plaque
- Scissors
- Scroll Saw
- Sandpaper
- Sanding Disks
- Sandpaper
- Wood Stain
- Soft Cloths
- Hanging Bracket
- Screws
- Draw a sketch of your plaque design on a thick sheet of paper or poster board. You don't want to use regular paper because it will be hard to trace on your wooden plaque. Make sure you draw the sketch with a pencil because it will be much easier to correct mistakes. All your materials including the poster board should be able to be found in arts and crafts stores.
- Cut your sketch out with scissors. This will be your template to use on the wooden plaque.
- Trace your template on the wooden plaque with the same pencil. You might have to trace the template a few times so the pencil markings are visible on the wood.
- Cut your outline and any other information you want to appear on the plaque with a scroll saw. You should be able to find a scroll saw in a local hardware store.
- Smooth the wood surface with sandpaper or sanding disks.
- Apply wood stain with soft cloths to the plaque. Make sure the stain is applied evenly and allow several hours for it to dry.
- Attach a hanging bracket to the back of the plaque with screws so you can hang the plaque on a wall.
