How to Design Personal Wall Plaques
Wall plaques are popular to commemorate a special occasion like a championship sports team or a retirement from a place of employment. Designing the plaque yourself will make it more personal and unique. You'll only need a few tools to design and build personal plaques.
Things You'll Need:
- Wood
- Scroll Saw
- Screws
- Hanging Bracket
- Wood Stain
- Cardboard
- Pencil
- Scissors
- Find a block of wood that you can make a plaque out of. You should be able to find quality wood at a local lumberyard. Make sure the wood is high quality so it will last a long time.
- Draw a sketch of how you want the plaque to look like with a pencil and a piece of cardboard. The piece of cardboard will be used as a template for your plaque. Use a pencil so you can easily correct mistakes. Cardboard should be available at arts and crafts stores.
- Cut your sketch out with scissors to complete the template. Regular scissors should cut the cardboard efficiently.
- Trace the template on the block of wood with a pencil.
- Cut the wood with a scroll saw. You should be able to find a scroll saw at a local home improvement store. Use the scroll saw to make any other designs you want on the plaque.
- Apply wood stain to the plaque to give it a nice look. Make sure you apply the wood stain evenly and allow one day for it to dry.
- Attach a hanging bracket to the back of the plaque with screws. Regular wood screws are all you should need.
