How to Build a Backyard Playground
Playgrounds are essential to the physical and mental development of children. They help children use their imagination, create social skills and develop cognitive skills that will enhance the way they develop. Playgrounds do not have to be expensive products purchased through a specialty store. Here’s how to build an affordable backyard playground:
Purchase a playground kit at your local Home Depot, Lowe’s or other hardware store. Playground kits have all the necessary materials to build your own backyard playground. If you prefer to build without a kit, you will need to purchase the necessary materials.
Sketch a design for the backyard playground. Determine what accessories you want on the playground. Do you want swings, a slide or monkey bars? These items will need to be configured in your drawing.
Clear off the area in the backyard where you want to build your playground. Make sure you have enough space for slides or swings. You will need to remove rocks and other debris.
Begin putting the playground together according to the kit directions. If you are not using a kit, you will want to set up the base foundation for the playground.
Add accessories. Be sure to secure all screws and bolts.
Check the playground material for durability and stability by swinging, sliding or standing on it. If there is any movement from your actions, it is not safe for young children. Secure the pieces tightly for secure equipment.
Once your backyard playground is complete, invite your children to play and develop their skills. A weekend chore for you will become years of fun for them.
