How To Buff Auto Paint
If the paint on your car is beginning to look dull and faded, you can buff the paint with a rubbing compound to make it look like new again. You can also buff the surface of your new car to keep it looking good. Buffing is also good when you want to remove old car wax. Buffing with the rubbing compound can also be used on a clear coat finish to remove any yellow film on it.
Materials Needed
- Rubbing Compound
- Rotary buffer
- Garden hose
- Clean water
- Clean cloth
- Safety glasses
Instructions:
- Park the car in an area that does not have direct sunlight. Make sure you start on the roof of the car when you buff it and then work your way to the easy to reach places on the car. Make sure you are not leaning on the areas that you have already buffed.
- Apply a small amount of rubbing compound onto the cloth cover on the rotary buffer. Apply a small amount of rubbing compound to a small section of the car. Make sure you put on your safety glasses.
- Slide the pad on the buffer around on the section that you applied the rubbing compound to. Turn the rotary buffer on to begin buffing the area with the rubbing compound.
- Allow the rotary buffer to do most of the work but use side to side as well as up and down motions. Work on one section at a time so the rubbing compound does not dry on the car. Do not work on the edges or the contours of the car.
- Use clean water and a soft cloth to go over the section once you have completed it.
- Start on a new section. Repeat Steps 1-4 for this section and each section afterwards until the whole car is complete.
- Use a garden hose to rinse the entire car. Your car is ready for a coat of paint.
