How to Build a Deck Boat

If you own a boat then most likely you enjoy spending time out on the water. Decks create a snug surface in your boat, making it more sturdy. You will also be able to move about more freely and safely and enjoy relaxing time in your boat.

Gather the materials that you will need for the project.

This includes:

  • Chalk

  • Drill bits

  • Rivet tool and rivets

  • Caulk

  • Plywood

  • Electric saw

  1. Measure the length and width of the boat. The measurements will help you determine how much plywood you need to use.

  2. Cut your plywood. Using your measurements saw the plywood to fit the length and width of the boat. If the boat is longer than 7 feet than you need to cut two pieces of plywood. After the plywood has been cut, paint it with wood sealer. Make sure to apply a generous amount of sealer on the edges of the plywood.

  3. Label the walls of the hull. Use chalk to make the labels. This will mark the length and width of the deck. These chalk marks need to be an inch higher than the boat's bottom surface.

  4. Drill holes in the boat for the rivets. Place the rivets toward the bottom of the boat end to end. This will stabilize your deck. Apply caulk on the rivets to keep water from entering the boat.

  5. Insulate the bottom of the boat. Using self-adhesive insulation, apply the strips every 8 inches around the boat.

  6. Connect the plywood to the strips. If you would like to add carpet to the deck then cut the carpet somewhat larger than the plywood so that you can wrap the edges under the bottom of the plywood. Use staples to secure the carpet.
