How to Build a Dog Run With Air Conditioning

Many people like to give their dog a place where it can run around and get plenty of exercise, but they also want their dog to be safe from overheating and weather conditions. One of the best ways to ensure that your dog is protected from the weather and still has a place to exercise is to install air conditioning into the dog run.

  • Create your outdoor run so that it is partially located in a shed. The shed will allow your dog somewhere it can be in the shade, but it will also give your dog the opportunity to outdoors when the weather permits.

  • Create a fenced area of your shade that is at least 6 feet wide and 6 feet deep and 5 feet tall. You will want to place a gate in your fence so that you can control when your dog can go out and when you keep it in. The fence should also be located agianst the walls of the shed to provide stability.

  • Install a dog door into the shed that is located in the inside of the area you fenced off. It is best if you install a dog door that you bought from a store because you know that it will work and is safe for your dog to use.

  • Install an air conditioning unit inside the shed. You do not want to place the AC unit on the indoor portion of the shade but on the opposite side. The reason you want to do this is prevent your dog from getting to the unit and injuring itself or the unit. Be sure to keep track of the temperatures of the shed to prevent it from becoming too cold.
