How to Build a Lift Kit

Adding a lift kit can help a vehicle perform better off road. The lift kit lifts the body of the vehicle a few inches to provide more clearance for your tires and for mud when driving off road. This article will instruct you on how to build a lift kit.

How To Build A Lift Kit

  1. Measure the length of the bolts on the current springs. The springs are bolted at the top of the axles. Add that number to the lift you want to achieve. You can safely add up to 5 inches of lift. Add 1 inch more to arrive at the number of replacement bolts you will need to buy for the lift kit.

  2. Cut out a 4-inch section of steel stock. If this 4-inch section is not high enough, you must stack the steel stock until it is the height of the desired lift you wish to achieve. Weld the sections together when you have reached the desired lift height.

  3. Loosen the bolts holding the springs on one side of the vehicle. Lift the vehicle until the spring is separated from the axle. Place the welded steel stock between the spring and axle. Insert the new bolts into the mounts. Tighten the nuts. Repeat the steps for the opposite side of the vehicle.
