How to Buy Cloth for Women
Buying cloth is a way for women to be creative or to save money on clothing. There are different ways to use cloth such as clothing, curtains, decorations or to make stuffed animals. Some people choose to make clothing because of having limited choices in the stores. Many women are hesitant to sew their own clothing because of not knowing how to pick out fabric.
- Select the type of cloth. There are a variety of choices, such as silk, cotton, taffeta, fur, satin and flannel. Most stores with a fabric section will mostly carry plain cotton. The type of cloth required will depend on the project. Craft or specialty stores provide more options. Some fabrics can be substituted but not always possible with every project. If you are unsure, then you want to check the pattern or ask an experienced seamstress.
- Choose the pattern. If you are following a pattern to making curtains or clothing, then you want to look at the instructions on the back of it. The amount of cloth required to finish the project is usually stated on the back of the package. Knowing this information helps with buying the right cloth and knowing how much to buy.
- Find out if the cloth has a nap. A nap is one design throughout the cloth that is similar to stripes. If so, you will have to buy more fabric so the pattern can be laid out correctly. If you are unsure about it having a nap, then you want to buy extra fabric and lay it out according to package directions.
- Choose a store and head to a cash register. After selecting the cloth, you can head to the cutting counter. The cashier will cut the fabric and give you a charge slip.
