How to Buy Protective Sport Eyewear for Your Child
Eye injuries in children playing in sports are very common. There is the thought that a child goes to the emergency room every 12 minutes for an eye injury. This could be easily prevented a majority of the time if the child was wearing protective eyewear.
Getting the kids to wear protective sport eyewear may take some convincing. Some children may be more willing than others. The best way you can get your kids to wear protective eyewear is if they see their parents and others wearing them. Kids want to be like those around them, and it will make sense to them if they are not alone in it.
As for choosing what to buy you should:
- Make sure that the protective eyewear is made from a shatter resistant plastic. Not only will this reduce breakage, but they are also lighter to wear.
- Buy according to the sport they will be used for, as some sports require a little more protection than others, or a different type. If your child plays hockey, lacrosse or baseball, the best choices are with a wire shield on the eyewear, or a face mask. Other types of sports, such as soccer, hockey, tennis and basketball may protect best with side shields. Sports such as skiing should definitely have 100 percent ultraviolet protection to guard the eyes against the sun's rays.
- Make sure to give your child choices when it comes to sports eyewear. If your child hates them, then they will not wear them.
