How to Buy School Supplies

Going back to school means that it is time to stock up on all those needed school supplies.  Depending on what grade your child is in or where he goes to school, the amount of supplies you need to buy will vary.  Whatever the amount, there are a few options to consider when it comes to buying school supplies.

  1. Obtain a school supply list.  This list may be given to your child on the last day of school.  If not, call the school and see if there is a list available.  Retail stores may also have lists available in their back-to-school section.  While your child may not need everything on the list, it will give you an idea of what may be needed.

  2. Wait till school is in session.  Another option to buying school supplies is to wait until school actually starts.  By doing this, you can take advantage of any sales or clearance items the stores may have in relation to school supplies.  It also benefits to wait because your child’s teacher may send home a school supply list on the first day of school.

  3. Plan ahead.  When buying school supplies for your child, plan ahead for the following year.  If you find a really good deal on certain supplies, buy extra to save for the following school year.  This may not be a good idea for items such as glue, but it works great for paper, notebooks and pencils.

  4. Take advantage of coupons.  Some companies may offer coupons to their customers when buying back to school supplies.  These coupons can often be found in newspapers and magazines.  Find a store that will offer double coupons for more of a savings.
