How to Buy a New Computer Battery for Your Laptop

In the course of using your laptop your battery may lose its charge and become too weak to be useful. In that case you'll need to buy a replacement computer battery for your laptop. Laptop batteries vary from one model to another, so it's important to do your homework before you buy a new one.

  1. On a notepad or sheet of paper, write down the manufacturer and brand name of your laptop.

  2. Locate the model number of your particular laptop. This may be in several locations. Open your laptop to see if the model number is written anywhere on a label or if it is included as a part of the brand name.Another location where you might find the laptop model number is on the underside. To check, close the lid of your laptop and flip the unit over to read the label on the bottom. Write the model number down on your notepad along side of the manufacturer and brand name.

  3. Power down your laptop and unplug it. Remove the battery carefully to view the battery model number. Jot down that number.

  4. Take a look at the appearance of your battery. You will need to know what the battery connectors looks like to ensure that the replacement that you find is actually the same as the one that is currently in use.

  5. Go online or to a computer supply store that sells laptop batteries. Look up your specific manufacturer and model of laptop. Once you've located this information, look for the correct battery model number.

  6. Verify that the battery and the replacement battery match before making the purchase.
