How to Buy a Riding Lawn Tractor
When you buy a piece of property of own land that is too large to push mow, a riding lawn mower becomes a necessity. A riding mower allows you to enjoy cutting your grass in even straight lines in a short amount of time.
- Measure or determine the size of your yard. The size of your yard depends on what size of cutting blade you need. The larger the yard, the larger the blade. For a one-acre yard, 42 inches of blade will suffice. For three acres you want upwards of 48 inches. The larger the cutting blade, the more horsepower the riding lawn mower has. Mowing large lawns with larger blades is easier and faster.
- Choose between an automatic or gear driven mower. For yards that have little to no barriers or objects to mow around, automatics provide a smooth and steady ride. For a yard that has a lot of obstacles and objects, you want a gear driven option. This allows you to adjust speeds while turning and driving out of the standard lines.
- Determine what cylinder engine is best for your needs. For smaller yards, a single-cylinder motor runs fine and saves on gas costs. For lager yards, a twin-cylinder engine lasts longer, provides a lot more power and has great balance throughout the ride
- Decide if you want the grass bagged or mulched. There are different needs for different rides, and this is up to you. Some machines won’t offer either of the two features.
- Wait for the end of the mowing season when riding lawn mowers go on sale. This is the best time to get a great deal and the best time to negotiate prices. The new inventory is going to come in soon, so dealers are anxious to get older models out the door.
- Hold off on the additional features to save money. Buying a lawn mower is similar to purchasing a vehicle and by eliminating unnecessary options you can save a lot of money.
