How to Negotiate Boat Prices

How to Calculate Boat Prices

Buying or selling a used boat is a similar process to an automobile purchase in the sense that you need to know the value the boat has based on the facts, such as its year, type, features, and condition. Understanding a boat's value and knowing how to calculate it will help you when buying of selling.

  1. Go to the NADA
    Guides for Boats
put in your zip code when prompted choose the
type of boat you are buying or selling. You will find numerous
manufacturers to sift through. If you are selling your boat and want
to find out it's retail worth, follow the pages to choose the
various features your boat has. You can do the same if you want to
buy a boat by choosing the features you want.

  2. After you choose all the options
your boat has or what you want, press the “Continue” button and
you will be given a range of how much the boat is worth by giving
you three prices, one “Suggested List Price” “Low Retail”
and “Average Low." If you are buying or selling from an
individual you can price it or expect to buy it for less than retail
and work out negotiations between buyer and seller.

  3. Check in your area for boats
similar to the one you are selling or buying to see what their
prices are. You might even want to go in person to see the boat and
check if it is in as good condition as yours. This can give you a
good idea of what to price your boat for.
