How to Care for Rattan Furniture
Rattan furniture is popular for its interesting looks and high durability. Because rattan is so strong, it does not need to be fussed with most of the time. By keeping a few tips in mind, your rattan furniture will look good for years to come.
Items you’ll need:
- Felt pads
- Glue
- Rag
- Hairdryer
- Dish detergent
- Be sure that you keep your rattan furniture indoors. An excess amount of humidity will cause the rattan wood to swell, which will harm the durability of the piece of furniture over time.
- Purchase felt pads for the bottom of the furniture, specifically rattan wood chairs, When rattan furniture is dragged back and forth over time, it can cause the wood to split. Avoid this by gluing the felt pads to each leg of the rattan furniture. This will ensure that splitting of the wood is reduced or eliminated.
- Clean the furniture when it collects dust or dirt. Usually this will only happen every few months. Mix a mild dish soap with a bucket of warm water. You will not need more than a teaspoon of soap per gallon to adequately do the job. Once the solution has been made, dip the rag in the bucket and wring it out. Then, use the damp rag to wipe off any dirt or dust from the furniture. When you are finished, use the hairdryer to make sure that the furniture is completely dry. Leaving moisture on the furniture can damage the rattan beyond repair.
