How to Catch Redfish with Dead Bait

Redfish is a type of fish found along the southern Atlantic coast and the gulf of the United States. The most common type of redfish is a snapper. A variety of different bait used to catch these fish; however, dead bait works the best.

Items Needed:

  • Mullet (dead bait)

  • Fishing pole and reel

  • Hook (circle)

  • Swivel

  • Filament leader

  1. Pick up the swivel head and tie the monofilament leader to one end of it.

  2. Tie the other end of the mono filament head to the circle hook.

  3. Tie the rig you just made to the fishing line. When tying the circle hook and the swivel to the monofilament leader, make the knots tight so they do not break when a redfish snags the line.

  4. Wrap the bait on the circle hook. When wrapping the dead mullet to the circle head, cut off the head from the body.

  5. Go to the desired location to catch the redfish, cast the line, and wait to catch a redfish. Keep the line in the water for at least 20 minutes before giving up and trying a different location.

  6. Catch the fish and reel it in.

Tips:

WHen you are fishing for redfish, remember that patience can be one of the most important tools. Allow your bait to stay in the water and release its scents for at least 20 minutes before trying a different location. When you feel a bite on the line, do not react immediately, but give the fish time; this will give you a better chance of having a redfish ensnared in your line when you draw it out of the water.
