How to Change the Glow Plugs in an L200

The Mitsubishi L200 is a diesel engine truck.  It has glow plugs that ignite the fuel to keep the truck moving.  Sometimes they will go bad or malfunction.  Whenever this happens you will want to know how to replace them yourself.

Things That You Will Need

  • A socket wrench set

  • Some new glow plugs

  • A flat head screwdriver

  1. Open the vehicle’s hood.

  2. Look at the center of the engine.

  3. Find small, pencil-shaped pieces that are silver and similar in size to an adult's pinky finger.

  4. Use a flat head screwdriver to loosen the clamps over the air intake hose so that you can remove it if it is in the way.  Once loosened, simply pull the hose straight out of the engine.

  5. Remove the wires that connect your glow plug to the rest of your engine.

  6. Place your socket wrench over the glow plug that you want to remove.

  7. Rotate the socket wrench’s handle in a counterclockwise motion in order to loosen the glow plug so that you can pull it out with your hands.

  8. Use your hands to pull the glow plug out of the engine.  Do not use a socket wrench as you do not want the glow plug to fall into the engine.

  9. Slide the new glow plug into the empty glow plug channel.

  10. Tighten the glow plug by twisting the handle of your socket wrench in a clockwise motion.

  11. Repeat these steps for any additional glow plugs that may need to be changed.

  12. Replace the connection wire.
