How to Chart a House After a Pest Inspection
After completing a pest inspection on a home, you must develop a comprehensive report to provide to the homeowner. This report will contain your findings, a report of existing and potential damage, and treatment recommendations. A crucial part of the report is the home chart, which shows the location of the damage.
Things You Will Need:
- Inspection report
- Graph paper
- Ruler
- Draw a scaled drawing of the floor plan of the house. The general guideline for the floor plan is to use one graph square to denote one foot of length. Include exterior additions, such as decks or patios, as well as building details, including bay windows and enclosures. Mark the location of all exterior doorways, including basement access doors. Repeat this process for each floor of the home. When you are finished, you should have a diagram of the entire house, drawn to scale.
- Note your inspection findings on the diagram. Begin by marking the exact location of the damage, whether it be from pests or other sources, such as water damage. You can elect to use a symbol, such as an X, or a highlighter to mark damaged areas in the home's structure.
- Describe the nature of the damage or infestation. Your company may require the use of contractor codes. If that is the case, use all required company codes in your description. If your company does not require certain codes, then describe the damage or infestation using plain English. Write in small, neat print as close to the location marking as possible.
- List your recommended treatment and repair process. This should be noted under the damage description.
- Prepare a full report. Your report should be prepared on a separate sheet of paper. Use a blue or black pen and develop a chart that reflects the findings on your home chart. Follow your company's chart template or other required guidelines. If your company does not have a template, create a basic one. Label one column "Damage Location." Label the second column "Damage Description" and label the final column "Treatment Recommendations." Fill in all of the required information.
