Pest Control Job Qualifications
Pest control can be a lucrative career. There is always growth and a demand for professionals in the field. There are some basic requirements that will have to be adhered to break in to the field. Most of the requirements are industry standard, so once you complete them you can move from company to company, or start your own.
A job in pest control entails removing insects and wild animals from apartment buildings, households, businesses, storage areas and any other structures. This is done to protect people as well as maintain the integrity of the structure. Not just anybody can walk in and get a job in pest control. There are qualifications you will have to meet first.
Education
It is required by most employers that a GED or a high school diploma be obtained before working in this field. Your chances of getting in with this job will be better when you obtain any type of certification or formal vocational training in this area.
Licensing
No matter where you live you will need to be licensed in order to be a pest control worker. Every state will have different requirements in what it takes to become licensed. It will typically include going through the training and passing the state administered exam.
Responsibilities
Your responsibilities in this job will include evaluating all pest control situations. This will be done by thoroughly inspecting the conditions of the structure. You will identify any new infestations and figure the causes. Once you have reached a cost agreement you will apply the necessary treatments, chemicals or materials to get rid of the pests.
Future of Pest Control
It is said that you can expect a 15% increase in this particular field between the years of 2008 and 2018. This is because of the ever growing demand for the environmental safety and health as well as the new construction of buildings.
