How to Choose Army Hats
Army hats come in many different styles, shapes, materials and colors. There are reenactment hats from historical wars, there are fashion hats made to resemble styles worn by army personnel, and there are genuine U.S. Army issued army hats.
- Look up information about the particular style that suits your purpose for choosing the hat. If you are looking for an older style of army surplus hat, visit an army surplus store in your area to browse their selection of wool, canvas, and denim hats.
- Visit reenactment websites and specialty stores to locate hats that replicate the particular style and war in which you are searching. Some of the choices for the U.S. Civil War include the Confederate western style hat with red or yellow tassels and a grosgrain band, or the Yankee hat that is made in the Kepi style.
- Choose a marine style hat if you enjoy a large brimmed wool hat. This hat comes in green, gray, black and navy blue. There is a turn-down brim on some hats, and others have the classic straight brim.
- Try on a woodland boonie hat if you are looking for a Vietnam conflict style of hat made from canvas. This hat has green camouflage with a brim that is not very stiff. It has a similar style to a bucket hat, but a slightly stiffer brim. Try the bucket hat if you need a slightly more flexible hat. There is a strap for underneath the chin for added stability.
