How to Find Lizard Cages

How to Choose Lizard Cages

Choosing a lizard cage is one of the most important parts of lizard care and maintenance. A lizard cage provides the lizard with a comfortable and consistent environment in which to live. It also protects the lizard from doing harm to itself outside the cage.

  • Research your lizard. Perhaps one of the most important parts of selecting a lizard cage is making sure it is the proper size for your lizard. Many lizards may begin small but may grow up to four feet long or more. You want to make sure the cage you choose can support the lizard for its entire life.

  • Make sure your cage has a proper heating system. Lizards rely on their surroundings to keep warm as they do not regulate their body temperature internally. You want to make sure the cage you choose is capable of housing a proper heating unit.

  • Consider how easy the cage will be to clean. A lizard cage should be cleaned often. Lizards eat live and frozen insects. They often leave behind leftovers which can build up and develop harmful bacteria and mold. The cage you choose should have easy access so that you can safely clean the cage on a regular basis.

  • Make sure the cage can support lights. Lights are an important part of a lizard cage. They will make sure the lizard stays warm and their habitat remains well lit during the day or night. Make sure you buy a cage which can support an adequate lighting system for your lizard.
