How to Choose an Art College
Are you planning to attend art school and wondering what the best college is for you? What might be best for some people may not be right for you. It depends on what area of art you plan to study, the cost of the program, the degree level, and where the school is located.
- Look for colleges and universities
that offer the bachelor of fine arts or BFA. You will find that most
universities have an art program with a variety of specialties. The
larger the art school is, the more specialties you will be able to
focus on or at least have a broader range of study topics. - Decide on the degree level you are
seeking. If you have your bachelor's degree, you will want to look
into a master's program in the field of art you wish to study. There
is the MFA degree, which is typical at this level of education,
whereas the bachelor's degree sometimes has other varieties
depending on what area of art you study, such as graphics or
animation, these two may not fall under the BFA. - Keep in mind that the more popular
or prestigious a school's art program is will mean a more
competitive admissions process. You should always have a backup plan
just in case you are not accepted to your first choice. For
instance, you could apply to the competitive college, but at the
same time apply to one that has a good reputation but less
competitive. This way you do not have to delay your studies if you
do not get accepted your first choice school.
