How to Chum & Bait Freshwater Fish
It can be hard to find the right spot to fish in fresh or salt water, so, why not bring the fish to you by using chum? All you have to do is learn how to make a chum recipe and use it properly.
Items needed:
- Food Processor
- Garden hose
- Zipper storage bags, freezer variety
- Approximately 4 pounds of canned cat food (12, five ounce cans)
- Approximately 3 pounds of whole kernel corn (3, 15.25 ounce cans)
- A whisk
- Wheat bread (6 loaves)
- 5 gallon bucket
- Can opener
- Ladle
- Freezer
- Ice
- Cooler
- Pocket knife
- Chop 6 loaves of bread in the food processor. Wait until the bread is finely chopped into crumbs before stopping the processor, and then dump all of the crumbs into the 5 gallon bucket.
- Use a can opener to open all cat food cans and empty them into the 5 gallon bucket.
- Open all three cans of corn with the can opener and empty the cans inside the bucket.
- Take the whisk and blend all of the ingredients inside the bucket together.
- Grab your box of heavy duty zipper freezer bags and start scooping the chum to fill them using the ladle. Put all of the filled bags of chum inside another empty zipper freezer bag, or double bag them.
- Put the chum into a cooler full of ice to bring to your fishing destination. Store any chum you’re not using in the freezer.
- Chum or bait the freshwater fish by cutting the bottom corner off of one of the freezer bags with a pocket knife, tying it to your boat or a tree limb on the shore and letting it hang into the water.
