How to Clean Bathroom Sink Mold
Because bathrooms are often damp and humid, it is understandable that it is a common location for mold. There are a number of reasons that this occurs such as a lack of ventilation, soap scum, grime and improper drying of surfaces. This is especially true of sinks where water is frequently running and is routinely left to dry on its own. If you have mold in your sink it is important to remove it as quickly as possible.
Items needed:
- Rubber gloves
- Long-sleeved shirt
- Soft-bristled toothbrush
- Vinegar
- Sponge, cloth or additional toothbrush
- Bleach (optional)
- Put on a pair of rubber gloves and a long-sleeved shirt. This protects your hands and clothing from the mold.
- Open a window so that the bathroom is well-ventilated when scrubbing the mold. You do not want to inhale any mold spores.
- Scrub away the surface mold using a soft bristled toothbrush. Apply heavy pressure.
- Pour vinegar over the remaining mold in the sink.
- Let the vinegar set on the area where the mold was for 10 to 15 minutes.
- Scrub the area with a different clean toothbrush, cloth or a sponge.
- Boil a pot of water.
- Rinse the sink with the boiling hot water.
- Dry thoroughly.
- Spray the sink regularly with vinegar to help discourage mold growth in the future.
- Bleach may be used in place of the vinegar. However, it is important to never mix bleach and vinegar as this will result in dangerous toxic fumes.
