How to Clean Bronze Tableware

Bronze tablewear can be a striking addition to a formal dinner or dinner party or a special holiday dinner. Bronze tablewear takes special care, which is why it might not be used as frequently as other types of utensils or silverware.

Items needed:

  • Bronze polish

  • Soft gloves such as polishing gloves

  • Soft, dry cloths for wiping and cleaning the bronze tablewear

  • Mild dishwashing detergent for hand washing

  • Water

  1. Lay down a soft, clean cloth on
the table or other surface on which you plan to clean the bronze
tablewear. This will help cushion and protect the bronze tablewear
    from scratching or being damaged.

  2. Put on gloves to protect the skin
on your hands from the cleaning substance or the drying effects of
    the water.

  3. Apply the bronze polish to the
tablewear per the manufacturer's instructions, typically by gently
rubbing a thin layer onto the bronze and letting it sit for a few
minutes. Do not let it sit for more than a few minutes or it may
    further tarnish.

  4. Pick up a clean cloth and gently
wipe the polish from the bronze tablewear.

  5. Repeat these steps as necessary
until each piece appears to be clean and shiny. Several rounds may
be necessary if the pieces are especially tarnished or stained.

  6. Wash the bronze flatwear in a mild
    dishwashing detergent and water.

  7. Dry each of the bronze pieces
immediately with a clean, soft cloth.

  8. Wrap the bronze tablewear in a
soft, dry cloth and store it in a separate drawer or a special
silverware chest in order to prevent tarnishing from occurring.
