How to Clean Ductless Air Conditioners

A ductless air conditioner does wonders on humid and hot days. The air conditioner cools the air from outside and sends it inside. If you want the air conditioner to work properly every time, you must regularly maintain by cleaning it.

Materials Needed

  • Screwdriver

  • Vacuum cleaner with a hose

  • Cloths

  • Mild liquid dish detergent

  • Water

  • Filter

  1. Make sure the power is turned off and allow 15 minutes to pass before cleaning the ductless air conditioner. You do not want to risk electrocution.

  2. Take a screwdriver and remove the screws in the coil cover. Take the coil cover off and place it to the side for now.

  3. Attach a hose to a vacuum cleaner. Turn on the vacuum. Use the attachment to clean around the coils on the air conditioner. You want to remove this dirt and debris because it will cause blockage and keep cool air from reaching the inside of the home.

  4. Make sure you use care around the fins because they can easily bend. If the coils do bend, push them back into place using a coil brush.

  5. Turn on water from the sink and soak a clean cloth. Add a small amount of mild liquid dish soap on the cloth. Squeeze the cloth out slightly. Use the cloth to clean the coil cover.

  6. Rinse the cloth out to remove all of the soap from it. Wring the cloth to remove some of the water. Use the cloth to remove all of the soap from the coil cover. A clean coil cover will allow more air to flow.

  7. Put the coil cover back on and place the screws back into place. Use the vacuum to remove any dirt and debris from the air vents on the inside.

  8. Read the instructions that came with the ductless air conditioner to learn how to place a clean filter in the unit. Some unit will allow you to clean the filter and replace it while others will require a new filter.

  9. Turn on the electricity after the filter is in place. Power up the ductless air conditioner to make sure it is operating correctly.
