How to Size Ductless Air Conditioners
Ductless air conditioners (normally called window or wall units) have been around for a long time. When you have a situation where there may be no ducts for a system, how exactly would you determine what size you need for your specific purposes? This should help in your decision-making.
- Determine the size of the area being cooled. You need to know the square footage of the area in order to figure out the capacity of the air conditioning unit. As an example a room that is ten feet by eight feet and having a temperature of between 38-40 degrees needs a ductless air conditioner with a capacity of about one ton and have a power supply of 1.2 KW. Keep in mind this is for one room.
- Know where the room the air conditioner is located in the building. You have to remember that rooms on the top floors are normally warmer than lower floors. You may need a higher rated unit for rooms on higher floors for that reason.
- Understand that the general climate of where you live will affect how much you use your unit. If your average climate is like that in Florida, you will require air conditioner units with higher capacities than if you lived in Detroit. In some areas you may not need an air conditioner at all but a heating unit.
- Check into the other features that are offered in the newer units. They have anti bacterial filters, plasma filters and new inverter technology as well. These may have a special benefit to your particular situation.
