How to Fix a Hoover Vacuum

How to Clean Hoover Vacuums

Hoover vacuums have always been popular, affordable, and work well for normal household vacuuming. However, like any vacuum, if it is not cleaned properly, it loses suction, does not clean well, and can even begin to smell. The more you need to use your Hoover, the more often it needs to be cleaned. Luckily, Hoover has made cleaning their vacuums easy.

  1. Begin by moistening a clean washcloth. Use it on the outside of the vacuum to get all the dirt, dust, and any other debris that is visible. If there is anything sticky on the outside, you might want to use some mild soap to scrub it off. Use a dry washcloth to dry off the outside of your vacuum after you have wiped it down.

  2. Replace the vacuum filter if it looks dirty. Bag-less vacuums need the filter changed more often if you use your vacuum often or are cleaning up after a large family. Change the vacuum bag if you have a bagged vacuum. Your Hoover will not pick up much dirt or dust if your vacuum bag is full.

  3. Lay the vacuum on its back so that you can clearly see the underside; makes sure it is unplugged from the wall socket. Use a screwdriver and remove the plate that covers the brush roller. You may have a Hoover model where no screws are necessary and the plate snaps on and off, if you don't see screws, try popping it off or refer to your owner's manual.

  4. Use a pair of scissors or needle-nose pliers and pull off any hair or debris that has wrapped around the brush roller. If you have pets with long hair, you may be surprised at how much hair you'll find. Of course, this means that your brush roller is not turning at full capacity. After finishing, make sure the brush roller is moving freely. Attach the plate after you have finished. You should repeat the cleaning of your Hoover on a regular schedule to keep it running smoother and for longer.
