How to Clean Used Playground Equipment

Playground equipment is constantly exposed to the elements. It's also exposed to dirt, grime, food, and drinks. It's important to clean your equipment routinely to avoid build up that would be more difficult to remove. A large scrub brush will make this job a lot easier.

Items Needed

  • 15 inch floor scrubbing brush with long handle

  • Large bucket

  • Dawn Dishwashing liquid

  • Rags

  • Water hose for rinsing

  • Notepad and pen (optional)

Directions

  1. Add one cup of dishwashing liquid to your bucket. Fill at least halfway with water from your water hose. Mix the solution.

  2. Dip your scrub brush into the soapy water and begin scrubbing the playground equipment. In small areas, you will need to use the rag to clean.

  3. As you are cleaning the equipment, inspect to see if any maintenance or repair is needed. Use your notepad to jot this down.

  4. After the equipment is cleaned, use your water hose to rinse. Make sure to rinse all the soapy water off to avoid any slick surfaces.

  5. Allow to air dry. If your equipment has metal parts, check to see if they need greasing. After the equipment is dry, you can grease those.

  6. Inspect the area that your playground equipment sits on. Check for any loose roots, glass or other items that could cause injury. Clean up any trash in the area. If your equipment is portable, you can move this to shadier areas in the summer. Make sure to mow and do any lawn maintenance before moving the equipment to it's new location.
