How to Clean Vegetables
Eating a diet that is rich in vegetables has many health benefits. However, vegetables should be cleaned before preparation to remove chemicals, wax and insects. Before vegetables are sent to the market, they are usually sprayed with pesticides and waxed to make them more attractive.
Pour 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in a spray bottle and add 1 pint of distilled water. The vinegar will kill bacteria and reduce the risk of food-borne illness. The distilled water is filtered and purified and will help to remove contaminants.
Place your vegetables in a clean container and spray the vinegar and water solution evenly over them. For vegetables such as lettuce, spray the solution between the leaves. Leave them in the solution for at least 2 to 3 minutes to get rid of dirt, pesticide and other contaminants.
Take the vegetables out of the vinegar solution and thoroughly rinse them with water, then put them in another clean container. You can now prepare and eat your vegetables with confidence, knowing they are cleaned and safe to consume.
