How to Clean Your Kitchen Appliances

There is nothing more unsightly than dirty kitchen appliances. To clean your kitchen appliances, use natural cleansers such as vinegar, water and baking soda. These ingredients work great at removing grease and stains from coffee makers, microwave ovens, toaster ovens and blenders. These small appliances should be cleaned on a regular basis in order to avoid dirt and grease buildup.

Coffee Maker

  • To clean your coffee maker, use one part white vinegar to two parts water. Pour a full pot of this mixture into the reservoir.

  • Turn on the coffee maker and let the vinegar run through. Once it has gone through the cycle, turn off the coffee maker and let it cool.

  • Throw out the vinegar solution, and cycle two pots of cold water through the coffee maker in order to completely eliminate the vinegar solution.

Microwave

  • Add baking soda to a bowl of water and microwave for three to five minutes. The moisture and steam will soften the crust bits and splatters. With a sponge, clean the insides of the microwave with the hot baking soda water. Be careful, as the water will be very hot. The baking soda will also act as a deodorizer.

  • If you do not have baking soda, you can microwave ¼ cup of vinegar and a cup of water in a bowl. With a sponge wipe down the insides of the microwave. Be careful when handling the vinegar water, as it will be very hot.

Toaster

  • Make sure to unplug the oven before cleaning. Remove the crumb tray and shake off the food particles and crumbs. Wash the tray and oven rack with soap and water, and rinse with clean water. Use vinegar and water to clean the oven window and use a plastic scrub to remove the spots.

  • To maintain a clean toaster oven, make sure to wipe the interior with dishwashing soap after cooking greasy foods.

Blender

  • Fill the blender jar with water about 3/4 full and add 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap along with some baking soda.

  • Run the blender at high speed for about 20 seconds. Rinse with hot water and dry with a towel.

  • Rinse the blade assembly with hot water. Clean the base with a half-and-half solution of vinegar and water.
