How to Clean a Rubber Roof

Rubber roofs are a durable roof option commonly found on the top of RVs. This roof type reduces the common maintenance task such as sealing and leak prevention commonly found on other roof options. However, with these types of roof quarterly cleaning is necessary in order to reduce the incidence of stains and mold.

What You'll Need:

  • Bucket

  • Broom

  • Soft bristle brush broom

  • Water

  • Dish washing detergent

  • Water hose

  1. Before you begin washing your rubber roof, use a broom to sweep away any debris. You'll need to ensure that any leaves, twigs or other debris are removed before you proceed. Use of a soft bristle brush broom is best suited to complete this step.

  2. Take your bucket and place an ample amount of dish washing liquid inside and then proceed to filling it with water. Vigorously agitate the water and dish washing detergent mixture until it is full of soapsuds. It should resemble the same mixture you use when washing dishes

  3. Take the soft bristle brush broom you used to sweep the roof and clean it with a water hose. You'll need to ensure that any remaining debris have been removed from the brush broom before you insert it into the clean soapy mixture.

  4. Insert the soft bristle brush broom into the soapy mixture and begin scrubbing the rubber roof. Use the power of your elbow to clean the rubber roof to a pristine finish. Pay particular attention to all the seams of the rubber roof for leaks. You may need to go over some areas twice to complete this step.
