How to Compare Electric Chainsaws

Cutting your own firewood can save a lot of money when you are equipped with a good chainsaw that meets your physical requirements. You can usually find good deals on chainsaws. However, they still cost a fair amount and therefore you should know what qualities and features to shop for. Learn how to compare electric chainsaws to get the best investment.

  • Investigate corded chainsaws if most of your plans entail working with the saw right around the house or some place with a power source. These types of saws do require an electrical outlet to function, but most can be used with a fairly long extension cord. This should provide the necessary length to run them in your woodcutting and splitting area with no problems.

  • Consider a cordless chainsaw if felling trees or collecting firewood on other properties away from handy electric outlets. Some people find cordless saws provides more versatility for cutting trees in a forest and working wood projects at home. However, cordless chainsaws do have their limitations because they run on a battery, which generally supplies 30 minutes of use. It is possible to recharge them or change the battery to continue sawing.

  • Compare performance and power for corded or cordless chainsaws. If you only need it to cut small limbs and do not require a lot of performance power, then a smaller unit will probably suffice. If you for-see cutting down good-sized trees, you will need a more powerful and expensive chainsaw to do the job.

  • Check out different features offered on a variety of brands. Consider designs offering safety guides, self-oiling blades, vibration dampers and tool-free adjustments for chains.

  • Before purchasing, place size, dimensions, weight and designs at the top of your list. You can purchase a well-built, heavy-duty electric chainsaw that can be used to cut any size tree or log you may encounter. However, if the saw is too large and heavy for you to use for any length of time, you will not be pleased nor inclined to use it. It is very important that you pick up each saw to see how the weight feels, test the handle for a good grip and determine if it will work for your cutting purposes before purchasing.
