How to Convert a Vehicle to Propane
More and more people are converting their vehicles to propane because it is safer for the environment. If this is something you are considering doing to your car it is highly recommended that you read the warranty on your car before installing the kit.
- Purchase the conversion kit, which can be purchased at most automotive parts stores. The kit will include carburetor, valves, actuators, electronics, tank and software for installation. Be sure to make sure the kit you purchase is compatible with the type of engine you have in your car.
- Mount the liquid propane tank in the trunk of your car.
- Refer the manufacturer's instructions on how to modify your engine.
- Adjust the cam ratio and cam timing on your vehicle.
- Install the electronic shut off valve on the vehicle. This is done for safety measures. This will isolate the propane from the engine of the car when the car is not running. It will also automatically stop the flow of the propane if you were to get into an accident.
- Fill the car with fuel and make sure you check for any leaks.
- Start the engine of the car and check for leaks near the filter.
- Adjust the timing for the car because most cars will be set to idle faster than what is needed when you are using propane.
- Maintain the car on a regular basis and make sure to change spark plugs when needed. The sparks plugs are a common problem when a car is converted to use propane.
