How to Create Your Own Nursery Decor

Creating your own nursery decor is a great way to save money and pass the time while you wait for the arrival of your new baby.  There are several things you can create for the nursery that will look adorable and will be cherished by your child for years to come.

Wall Art

  1. Look for pictures that go with the theme of your nursery.

  2. Cut them out if they are from a magazine or book, or print them out if they are on the computer.

  3. Decorate them with lace, ribbon or buttons to create a special look.

  4. Frame them and hang them on the wall in your nursery.

Greeting Card Art

  1. Use cards you have received to make pictures for the wall.

  2. Purchase wooden craft frames from a craft store.

  3. Paint the frames different colors that go with the nursery.

  4. Frame the cards and hang them around the nursery.

Nursery Wastebasket

  1. Purchase a simple plastic wastebasket.

  2. Use fabric that matches the nursery to cover the wastebasket.

Plush Letters

  1. Print out large letters from the computer to use as a stencil.

  2. Trace the letter onto fabric.

  3. Cut out the letter shape from two pieces of fabric.

  4. Sew the two pieces of fabric together and fill it with stuffing.

Dragonfly Mobile

  1. Paint eight wooden clothespins green.

  2. Split a 2-foot wooden rod in half and paint both halves white.

  3. Loop eight pieces of ribbon to look like dragonfly wings.

  4. Attach the middle of the wings onto the back of each clothespin.

  5. Tie fishing wire around each of the dragonflies.

  6. Form an X out of the wooden rods and tie fishing wire around the center to hang it from the ceiling.

  7. Tie each dragonfly onto the rod in different places.
