How to Create a Direct Marketing Campaign

Direct marketing focuses your marketing tactics on a certain demographic. This marketing should increase your sales by reaching those who have interest in your product or service. Learn how to create a direct marketing campaign that works by using these few steps.

1. Choose a Demographic: Decide what type of people you want to purchase your product or service. Examples of demographics include: age, gender, race, income, religion, employment and marital status. Understand which demographic your product fits into best. You can even aim for multiple demographic categories. For example, your target demographic could be young female accountants.

2. Choose a Method of Direct Marketing: Demographics will respond to various direct marketing campaigns in different ways. A young person would most likely respond to an email marketing campaign, while the elderly may be more apt to respond to a traditional mailing direct marketing campaign.

3. Build A Mailing List: Whether you decide to use emailing or traditional mailing, you will need a targeted mailing list in order to contact your target demographic. You can do this by gathering the information of your previous customers. This tactic works well, because those who have purchased from you before will feel more confident buying from you again, assuming the first experience with your company was satisfactory. You can also do this through building a website and gathering personal information through a sign up form. This works better when developing a list of email addresses, because customers are more apt to give out an email address online rather than a physical address.

4. Mail and Analyze: Use your mailing list and send out the campaign to those you have on your list. Analyze and save the response level that you received from the campaign. Keep this information as reference for future direct marketing campaigns.
