How to Create a Paint Booth in Your Garage
Painting with an air compressor and a paint gun provides professional finished results. However, spraying large amounts of paint into the air can be hazardous to your health, as well as the environment. The solution to this is a paint booth, and a simple paint booth can be built in your garage.
Supplies
- Construction plastic
- One-inch sheets of foam insulation
- Duct tape
- Marker
- Sharp knife
- Box fan
- Furnace filter
- Trim several pieces of construction plastic and lay them on the garage floor where the paint booth is going to go.
- Place a one-by-four-by-eight-feet thick sheet of rigid foam insulation at the open garage door.
- Place two more sheets of the foam, next to the first, angled in the garage at 45 degrees. This forms an open box shape with slightly flared sides.
- Tape the three pieces together with duct tape. Run the tape the entire length of the joint between the two pieces.
- Lay a sheet of foam over the top of the box. Align its edge with the first sheet of foam.
- Trim off any excess foam from the top with a sharp utility knife.
- Use duct tape to seal the top of the box. Apply the same procedure as before when placing the tape along the connection joints.
- Trace the outline of a box fan around a sheet of the foam. Trim out the outline of the box fan with a sharp utility knife.
- Put the box fan in the hole facing outward. Seal around the fan hole with duct tape.
- Place a furnace filter inside the booth over the fan hole and tape it to the booth. This prevents paint from spreading into other areas of the garage.
