How to Cut a Hole for a Kitchen Sink

Most homeowners at one time or another take on the task of renovating the kitchen. It may be something as small as updating a kitchen sink. A kitchen sink can be easily installed with the right tools and a small amount of knowledge, thereby eliminating the need of a professional.

The hardest part of installing a kitchen sink is actually finding out where one needs to cut the hole. Listed below are the instructions for cutting a hole for a kitchen sink.

  1. The sink should be turn upside down on the counter top where it is to be installed. Take a pencil and outline the edges of the sink on the counter top. Remove the sink and draw a second line approximately 1/2" inside of the outline that you have drawn. The sink needs to have space to overlap the counter top, so one would cut along the inside line.

  2. A 3/8" hole should be drilled at each corner of the outline. The holes will make it easier to insert the blades of the saw.

  3. Insert the saber saw blade in one of the holes and cut out the opening for the sink making sure that one does not go outside of the lines.

  4. Use sandpaper to smooth out any rough edges. The hole is now ready for the sink to be installed.
