How to Design College Basketball Uniforms and Apparel
Designing an appealing basketball uniform for your college is not just important for the actual basketball game. It can also be a source of income for the university. By designing a sharp uniform, you can provide the college with a steady steam of profit.
- Find a uniform company that will meet your needs. Ask the director of your athletic department if he has received any uniform or equipment catalogs. You can look locally or search for a company that serves colleges nationwide. After searching traditional uniform companies and online retailers, choose the company that best fits the college's needs.
- Begin designing your uniform. You will first need to determine the color scheme of the uniform. Use your school's colors as a starting point. They can be used as either a primary or secondary color. You will need to choose colors for the lettering, edging and the jersey itself.
- Choose a font for the jerseys. Although the front of the jersey can have a unique font, the back of the jersey should be a standard block font. Most sports leagues require that the back of the jersey be easily recognizable to referees.
- Submit your logo to the uniform company. If your college does not have a logo or is looking for a new one, the uniform company can supply you with several mock-ups for you to choose from.
- Supply the uniform company with the information needed for the backs of the jerseys. Give them the last name of each player and the corresponding jersey number.
- Wait to see a sample jersey before making your order. If you are not pleased with the result, retool the parts of the jersey you are not happy with.
- Once your jersey is complete, the uniform company can show you with all types of apparel that you can brand with your new look. This includes golf shirts, t-shirts and caps.
