How to Disable Photo Printing Wizard

There are few things more irritating to a seasoned computer user than wizard software. This software is designed to help guide novice users through the steps of an application that may be unfamiliar to them. The Photo Printing Wizard is an example of this type of software. This wizard, like others, can be disabled with a few simple steps.

Microsoft offers a Photo Printing Wizard that is standard with most Windows XP, Vista and 7 operating systems. This built-in photo printer takes the user step by step through the photo printing process. It is primarily geared for users that do not have separate printing software installed or who are unaware of how to print photos. For users that are familiar with printing photos the Photo Printing Wizard can be annoying. Disabling the feature of the wizard can be accomplished in a few steps.

1. Locate a printer software package or photo printing software that will work for your needs. Without a suitable alternative, the Photo Printing Wizard will always appear.

2. Install the printing or photo software. The installation process should be a guided setup. During the setup process, pay special attention to any option that allows you to associate particular files with the software. If this option becomes available, be sure to associate photo files with the software.

3. Ensure that image files are associated with the installed photo printing software. To do this, right click on any image file in your "My Documents" folder. Choose the option that says "Open With" and choose the freshly installed photo printing software.

4. Test the file association and disabling of the Photo Printing Wizard by printing a test image. Locate an image file ending in .bmp, .jpg, or .gif and select the "Print" option. The image should automatically print through the installed printing software and directly to the attached printer.
