How to Disable the Internet Options Registry

If you do not want someone to have access to the Internet options on your computer, you can disable the Internet Options in your Windows Registry. You should be very careful when working in the registry, however, because any wrong changes can hurt your computer. You can learn how to disable the Internet options registry in a few short steps.

  1. Make sure you are logged onto your computer as an Administrator. You will be editing the Windows Registry, and you cannot do this unless you are logged on as an Administrator.

  2. Click the “Start” button in the lower left corner of your screen, type “regedit” into the Search field, and then double-click “regedit” in the list of Search results to open the Windows Registry Editor. Regedit should be listed at the top of the search results. Click “Yes” if the User Account Control dialog box opens.

  3. Navigate to “HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Policies/Microsoft/Internet Explorer” on the left side of the Windows Registry window.

  4. Right-click on “Internet Explorer” on the left side of the screen, click “New” from the side menu, and then click “DWORD Value.”

  5. Name the DWORD Value “NoBrowserOptions” on the right side of the Windows Registry window. Right-click “NoBrowserOptions” and select “Modify.” Enter a number 1 in the Value Data Field and click “OK” to save the changes.

  6. Close the Windows Registry Editor by clicking the “X” in the upper-right corner of the window. You can also close it by clicking “File” from the menu bar, and then click “Exit.”

  7. Restart Internet Explorer by closing it and then reopening it. You should no longer have the option to get into the Internet options menu within Internet Explorer.
