How to Distribute a News Story for Maximum Exposure

A big event is going to happen or has already happened. You want everyone to know. There are many ways to get information to the general public; however, if you want maximum exposure in a short period of time, there are some steps you should follow.

  • Gather as much information as possible about the news story. Include who, what, where, when, why and how. Be sure to give all the information that you want the audience to know.

  • Create a press release with the information you have gathered.

  • Your press release should be typed and look professional. Include the words “Press Release” at the top of the page.

  • Once your press release is complete with all of the information, have someone read it to make sure it makes sense. If many people are going to read this press release, you don’t want to have spelling or grammatical errors.

  • Begin submitting your press release to the major news networks including NBC, CBS, ABC and FOX. You can fax or email the release. To get numbers or emails for these facilities, use a reputable online search engine.

  • Another way to get a news story out would be to post it on Facebook or other social network.

  • You can also call or contact your local newspaper, television stations and community information outlets. Ask the best way to send your news release for immediate release.
