How to Donate Dance Costumes

If you have old or unwanted dance costumes, you may want to consider donating them to the less fortunate. Donating your unwanted dance costumes will allow you to dispose of them and helps people who are unable to purchase new ones.

  • Contact the directors of the dance teams in your area, and ask whether they would like to have the costumes. They may have children in their classes who cannot purchase new costumes and who can use the donated ones instead. They may also be able to sell the dance costumes to make a profit for the group.

  • Donate the costumes to your local Goodwill or Salvation Army. These stores accept used goods and sell them to the public. The profits they receive are then donated to local charities to help people who are homeless or less fortunate.

  • Contact a local church group and ask whether it accepts costume donations. Churches help donate items to families in the community who are less fortunate. They may also sell the dance costumes to make money that can be donated to local charities or that can be put back into the community.

  • List the costumes for free on a local classifieds ad site such as Craigslist. You can list them under "Free Items," or list them in the "Apparel" section. You can also search the site to see whether anyone is looking for cheap or free dance costumes, and offer to donate them to that person.
