How to Draw Winter Clothes

If you are an artist or fashion illustrator, designing winter clothes will eventually be a project you need to take up. Winter clothes can either be basic or ravishing depending on the project you are working on. Use these tips for your next drawing.

Items Needed:

  • Colored pencils

  • Drawing paper

  • Tracing paper

  1. Use dark colored pencils. If you want your winter clothes to fit the mood and setting of winter, use royal blues and dusty purples. Dark wine reds and black can also be used for shirts, dresses, or skirts. Try to mix the colored pencil with a black one to shade in the corners of the clothing and make it stand out.

  2. Create warm looking clothing. Since these are winter looks, you will want to make sweaters, long trench coats, pea coats, sweater dresses, blouses, and boots. You can also add cloche hats if you want a 1920’s feel. If these are fashion blueprints, try to match up the clothing on the person you are drawing, without making it too tight or baggy on the figure.

  3. Don’t make it look too sketchy. If these are for a design, try to erase any sketchy squiggles and lines and keep all the colors in the outline. You will want your piece of art to look neat, tidy, and presentable. If you are a sketch kind of artist, you can practice this effect with tracing paper and drawing in the lines of whatever you choose to trace. This will help your brain form the notion of not drawing out of the lines.
