How to Dye White Scrubs Pants Black
If you are employed in an occupation where you have to wear scrubs you more than likely know how hard it is to keep white scrubs clean. If it is not mandatory that you wear a certain color you should consider dying your scrubs black.
Instead of going out and purchasing new scrubs to replace your white ones you should dye them black. Dying the scrubs black is something you can easily do at home.
- Purchase some black fiber reactive dye. This type of dye is recommended because the color will not come out when the items are washed. The dye can be purchased at most stores such as Wal-Mart.
- Read the label on the scrubs to make sure they are made of mostly cotton. The dye does not work well on polyester material. If the material is half cotton and half polyester the color will more than likely looked light in some places and dark in others.
- Mix the dye by following the instructions on the box. If you plan on using the dye in your washing machine to dye the items it is best to make sure it is safe to do so. Some manufactures of this type of dye recommend the dye be used in a bucket of cold water.
- Place your scrubs in the dye and allow them to remain there for the time length stated on the instructions.
- Remove the scrubs from the dye after the time has lapsed and rinse them with cold water.
- Hang the scrubs up to dry.
