How to Earn an Associate's Degree

How to Earn a Second Associate's Degree

If you have already earned an associate's degree and wish to go for a second associate's, it will typically take you less time to complete than your first degree. This is due to the fact that all of your basic courses from your first associate’s degree will transfer into your second program of study.

  1. Decide on a second associate's
degree major that you wish to obtain. Look at the catalog or go to
the school's website to see what their basic course requirements are
and compare those to the ones you have already taken since this will
give you an idea of the basic courses you have taken compared to
    what they required.

  2. Apply to the college and program of your
choice. Depending on the size of the college, this
can be a fast or slow process, especially if there are more students
applying. Therefore, if you are hoping to get into the program the next available semester, apply as soon as you decide the program
    is for you.

  3. Have your transcripts sent from
the school you earned your first associate's degree to the new
school. This will allow the admissions office to transfer in the
proper amount of basic hours and complete a degree program for you
that will show how many hours you need to finish the second
associate's degree. Typically, you can complete the second degree
program in one year since the first year of associate's programs are
spent working on basic education such as math, English, and other
    such subjects.
