How to Eat Healthy When Eating Out

Eating healthy when eating out can be challenging, especially if you are with friends who do not watch what they eat. All it takes to eat healthy while going out is determination and motivation. As long as you stick to it and are assertive, eating out can be enjoyed in a healthy manner.

  1. Discuss with your friends what you want to eat ahead of time. Choosing a particular food or dish that you know will satisfy you can go a long way in helping you to avoid overeating.

  2. Go to the restaurant that you and your friends decided to eat out at. The first thing the waiter will ask you is what you want to drink. Order a drink that has no sugar in it. Most restaurants serve water and unsweetened ice tea as good sugar-free beverage options. If you are trying to wean yourself off of sugary drinks ask for juice that is diluted with water.

  3. Take a look at the menu. Immediately cross off anything that is cooked in butter or fried. Instead, look for healthier options such as broiled fish or chicken. You may also find that eating meat grilled is tasty as well as healthy. If you find a menu option that you want, but are not sure what it is cooked with, ask the waiter. The waiter will gladly attend to your needs and add or take out anything that you do not wish to be served.

  4. Check for menu choices that are highlighted as being "low fat" or "healthy." Many restaurants now feature healthy eating entrees to assist their patrons in making the most health-conscious choice.
