How to Save Money While Eating Out
One of the first expenses people cut when trying to save money is their restaurant food budget. Letting other people cook for you can be costly, especially depending on the quality of the restaurant. If you want to treat yourself to a restaurant meal, but want to keep your bill reasonable, choose your venue and meals carefully.
- Search for coupons in your local newspaper or on the restaurant's website. These coupons usually offer a certain amount off your ticket price or a "buy one get one free" offer.
- Visit restaurants that offer free meals for kids. Most restaurants provide free meals for children under three, but many restaurants have daily promotional specials where kids 12 and under eat free.
- Visit the restaurant's Facebook page to see if you can find discount coupons on there. A lot of restaurants are now offering discounts to those who "like" them on Facebook. By receiving their updates in your news feed, you can easily keep track of their current specials.
- Check out area restaurant promos and see who is offering the best deal. Occasionally restaurants have some great promos, especially in a slow economy. Call each restaurant and ask what promotions they are currently running.
- Visit the restaurant during lunch hours. Lunch prices are usually significantly lower than those at dinnertime. The place will usually be a little less crowded as well.
- Research ahead of time so you can make educated decisions each time you dine out. By keeping track of what each restaurant charges for meals, along with their promotional calendars, you can quickly get an idea of which restaurant provides the greatest bargain.
