How to Estimate Seamless Gutters
One of the most essential components in a roofing system are gutters. Gutters are responsible for removing excess water from the roof by transporting it through gutters to an area away from the house. When installing a new roof, estimating the exact amount of seamless gutters you'll need in order for the project to be successful.
What You'll Need:
- Calculator
- Tape measure
- Notepad
- Pencil
- Using your measuring tape, measure the length of the edge of the roof that you'll be installing a seamless gutter system to. Round the measurement up to the next foot. Repeat this process on all areas of the roof that you'll install the gutter system to. Add each of these numbers up to figure out the total length. Its helpful to write down your measurements in a notepad to ensure that your end result is as accurate as possible.
- On a notepad, note the number of all the gutter downspouts you'll need. Gutter downspouts will need to be installed as part of your seamless gutter system in pre-designated areas of the gutter span. Generally, they are placed at the end of the span.
- Use your measuring tape to measure the height of the roofs edge. You'll need this measurement as part of the downspout material estimation. Multiply this measurement by the total number of tallied downspouts in order to figure the total length of the downspout material.
- Use your calculator to multiply the total length by 1.05. This will add an additional 5 percent to your figure to make up for any material waste during installation.
