How to Extend a Hedge Trimmer
Depending on the layout of your landscaping design, some of your bushes and trees may be harder to reach than others. Instead of getting aggravated, fix the problem by extending your trimmer. This method only requires a few steps and you will be on your way to a well-trimmed yard.
Things You Will Need:
- Adjustable hedge trimmer
- Purchase a trimmer that has the extending option. If you are not aware of the different variations, make sure to get in touch with a specialist at your local home improvement store and he will be able to explain the differences to you.
- Turn the adjustment knob so that it is relatively loose. Make sure to do the same with the locking collar so that you are able to make the necessary adjustments in length.
- Secure the trimmer so that each piece is in a different hand. Make sure that you have a tight grip to prevent any accidental injuries during the adjustment.
- Pull each hand in opposite ways so that the extending pole is able to lengthen itself to the length you need for it to be.
- Tighten the knobs so that the pole, or handle, stays in place at the location you have chosen to adjust it to. If the knob is loose, you can end up injuring yourself when trimming the hedges from a distance. The very last thing that needs to happen is half of the trimmer falling off while you are reaching out for the other side of your bushes.
